Ortisei
With a selection of his most recent works, Robert Bosisio brings an unprecedented dialogue between faces, bodies, horizons and landscapes to Ortisei, testifying to his passionate exploration of light and painting. Attentive to the slightest variations in light, the South Tyrolean artist transforms bodies into landscapes and landscapes into light as well as colour in his works, transfiguring the perception of space and the boundary between the real and the magical.
With an established and clearly recognisable artistic practice, Robert Bosisio has always expressed his deep love for painting throughout his career. It is a passion that is primarily technical, as over the years he has developed a practice that involves applying multiple layers of oil paint, alkyd resin, pigments and ash, but is rooted in something deeper and more intimate: a desire to better understand perception, i.e. how to look at the world. Indeed, Bosisio places great faith in painting, an instrument that can look back on thousands of years of tradition and yet speak a contemporary language.
"I love passionate painting, but not loud painting," says the artist, who aims for quiet, simple works that exude an aura of contemplation and introspection. The slow way of working is a central aspect of his research, both in the artist's painting practice - Bosisio returns to the same canvas again and again, even after a long time, slowing down and condensing his working rhythm - and in the subjects depicted, which gradually fade or are enriched with a new shade or nuance. A slowness that also involves the gaze of the viewer, who pauses in front of his works to perceive the chromatic richness and declinations of light, gradually reaching a state of calm and serenity.
Entering Fluttering Lights is like an exercise in meditation.
