GDG PRIZE 2024
• WHO
Galleria Doris Ghetta is located amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Val Gardena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2014, the gallery transformed into a contemporary art space, symbolizing a commitment to cultural heritage preservation and a forward-looking perspective. With Eleonora Castagna as a partner and a new location in Milan, the gallery opens a new chapter in 2022.
Its core principle explores the new humanism through introspective reflections on returning to nature. The program focuses on the symbiotic relationship between communities and landscapes, the balance of habitats, and an ever-evolving imagery that merges art, culture, and human narrative. The gallery serves as a meeting point for artists, encouraging expressive diversity and promoting a deeper understanding of humanity's role in the natural world.
The project space, Garasc, further supports emerging artists, encouraging experimentation and the creation of site-specific works that harmonize with the gallery's evolving ecosystem. Through initiatives like the Biennale Gherdëina, founded by Doris Ghetta in 2008, Val Gardena emerges as a place where artists and individuals silently dialogue with nature and culture.
The overall goal is to inspire a sustainable future through the transformative influence of art, embodying a more discreet yet impactful approach to promoting harmony between humanity and the natural world.
• WHAT
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the space in Pontives, Galleria Doris Ghetta launches an Open Call to participate in the GDG Prize 2024 Painting Prize.
The competition involves the selection of a winner who will be commissioned to create a one-month solo exhibition at GARASC.
The GDG Prize aims to support an artistic proposal that engages with the themes and ethics of Galleria Doris Ghetta, providing visibility and creating new connections within the young international cultural and artistic context. Artists whose painting practice and work engage with the proposed themes will be selected.
• GUIDELINES
The fundamental principle of Galleria Doris Ghetta revolves around the exploration of a new humanism through introspective reflections on the human spirit's desire to reconnect with nature.
There are three themes around which the gallery's research and artistic proposal revolve:
Deepening the symbiotic relationship between human communities and landscapes
The delicate balance between organic and inorganic elements
The imagery of human narrative in continuous evolution in relation to the environment in which it lives
This blend of suggestions underscores the gallery's commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of humanity's role in the natural world and the transformative potential in this profound connection.
