FINBAR WARD
Finbar Ward (born 1990 in London) lives and works in London, Great Britain. In his work, Ward adopts a wide range of artistic practices and materials, moving with ease from installation to painting, sculpture and drawing. Fascinated by the stories, ancient and recent traditions and mythologies that shape the identity of a place, Ward focuses on working and interacting closely with the territory in which he works. Once he has collected a set of features specific to the place, he processes them by layering the different temporal planes, mixing the protagonists of the stories and their symbols, aiming to tell a new story from a new perspective. In an ecological perspective, Ward likes to work with organic and raw material, foraged matter or studio detritus: the result is works in which the raw material component is well evident and the rough and imperfect surfaces tell of a process of creation that cannot always be controlled and flawless.
